The Eat Your Heart Out press night video showing the design of the shop (and yes cages!!!) Helix both designed and project managed:
Cake Gimp Cage
Posted: November 3, 2010 by tamathelix in design, event, food, PR, project management, UncategorizedWe recently worked with Idea Generation creating the set for Eat Your Heart Out (the World’s first 18+ cake shop) in the basement of Maiden, 188 Shoreditch High Street.
The creative director, Miss Cakehead, asked for a “serial killers garage” look and that’s exactly what they got of course (the cage was our own touch)! The EYHO team was so busy up to the launch we were just handed the project brief, budget and told to make it happen in a day. Which of course we did!

At the culmination of a very busy period Helix has won the ‘Best Design & Build Contractor’ Award at the Exhibition News Awards 2010, held at Lancaster Gate, London on 7th May, for its creative partnership work on the EDF Energy stand at the Ideal Home Show 2009 with Cake.
This is the highlight of a busy year for Helix – who have designed and built a range of solutions around the world in those twelve months.
EDF Energy was looking for more inspiring content and a way to really engage with their visitors. They needed to showcase renewable energy producing equipment and new environmentally friendly products, as well as linking to their sponsorship of the whole show.
Working under the creative direction of Clive Little, Cake’s Global Events Director, Helix developed several innovations which brought these concepts to life. “This was part of an ongoing partnership between the two companies,” says Brian Dowling MD of Helix. “We are always pleased to be working with Clive and with Cake, they bring some very interesting and challenging projects to us, they have an inspired team and it’s always very stimulating to work with them.”
The eye-catching design which the team developed demonstrated the volume of CO2 produced, and also communicated how much CO2 could be saved. Helix also created three large tree sculptures on which visitors could attach ‘pledges’ written on specially printed ‘ECO Money’ – visitors to produced origami flowers and creatures from the pledges to decorate the trees.
Other exciting projects completed by Helix in 2009 included the development, design and construction of Ice Age 3 attraction at Chessington World of Adventures – which included a very short lead time for Helix to both design and build the experience.
Helix also undertook the task of realising ‘The World’s Biggest Bed Jump’, for Mischief and IHG, in four global locations on the same day – London, Paris, New York and Shanghai. This included structural development, design, project management and site delivery in each city.
Helix continues to provide design, construction and project management services to its broad range of clients from its offices and workshops in south-east London – currently completing film scenery work, a number of exhibitions and the development of new experiential briefs.
